Who do you say you are? What do you like about yourself? Are you proud of who you are? If you struggle to answer these questions, you may have a problem with self-worth.
Self-worth comes from within. It does not rely on anyone else to make us feel good because we are already aware of our worth, values, strengths, and abilities. Having good self-worth is a crucial component of our identity and how we engage with ourselves and others. You may ask, how do I build or understand my self-worth? It begins by honoring the values within ourselves without having to compare them to anyone else.
Our self-worth is internal, not external.
Self-respect is very much connected to self-worth for when we honor these values in ourselves, we tell others we deserve to be respected ensuring healthy boundaries and expectations from our relationships.
Many find it difficult to think of values or traits they love about themselves. But building a list of positive affirmations is an effective exercise of self-love.
Here are some examples. And if they don’t resonate with you, that’s ok. I challenge you to create your own!
The path to self-worth is a personal journey, filled with introspection and kindness. It’s about who you are, not what you do. Be compassionate to yourself and know you are worthy of all the beauty there is in this world.
With Compassion,
